PSYCHICS do I need to hire one?
07/23/01
For those who don't have a lot of time to read the entire article here:
No One NEEDS A Psychic.
Now for the meat of this essay.
I'm a professional psychic and astrologer. I've been reading for others since I was 11 years old, first using cards and doing palm reading, later direct channeling. I don't consider myself uniquely talented, nor do I feel like I have all the answers; as a matter of fact, I think that anytime you consider hiring a psychic and think that they DO have all the answers, you need to stop whatever you are doing and save your money for something more important, like food or housing.
You have probably heard "everybody is psychic" and I would agree with that to a point; I feel strongly that everybody is intuitive, and learning to trust ones own feelings is part of the spiritual awakening that leads to the strongest joys in life. There are astrological "markers" (aspects that confirm or deny psychic ability). We ALL have psychic episodes, most assuredly, when you just KNOW so-and-so is going to call and the phone rings, and there they are... or you KNOW you have that job you interviewed for, even though you have no proof. The skeptics of course, would deny that this is in any way mystical or "psychic" in nature, and probably call it dumb luck; but from my experience with people, I think it's fair to say that psychic ability is one of the senses that is as much a part of being human as breathing, seeing or hearing. Few people want to develop it into a "career", tho with the current INDUSTRY PSYCHIC FLOOD that is so popular since the mid-80's, many people seem to think it's an "easy" way to make a living.
I'll get back to that thought later, right now I want to direct my energy to needing to consult a psychic.*
Hiring a psychic is not unlike hiring a doctor or someone to re-roof your house. While all doctors have earned the MD or OD degree thru years of study, and I hope anyone you hire to work on your house is a trained and bonded professional, Not All Are Created Equal!
In most psychic web sites, for example... (and there are a bazillion of them) the theme is always the same. Cheesy dark and foreboding backgrounds, with crystal balls, magick charms and some chick dressed in "fortune teller" clothing, who assures you she knows ALL, can solve all your problems, can name your enemies, and bring back lost loves.
And then, there will be the disclaimer:
"This is for entertainment purposes only, 18 or older to call"........
I always laugh at this point. That disclaimer is a legal bit of safety net for the "psychic" who isn't willing to accept responsibility for what they say. Except when I worked as an independent contractor for a company that required their readers to run a disclaimer, I have never used one, and don't intend to start now that I'm back in private practice.. As far as I'm concerned, if I consider myself to be qualified to read for another person, I had darn well better be willing to back up what I said during the reading. I cannot be responsible for how someone USES the information shared during a reading, but I do stand by what I said.
Life is a constant series of changes; some are great, like getting that job you always wanted, or getting married to your one true love... or having a baby. Others can be nightmares "during".... like finding out that dream job is really slave labor with a title attached to it, or that one true love is a snake, or that surprise child, that now at 15 has a police record and isn't the sweet innocent little baby person that they were SUPPOSED to be.......
That's where hiring a professional can come in. Talking with someone who, without prejudice, can look at the situation, from past present AND future, can help you take back your own life, and help you create the NOW that you really want to be living. It takes WORK, though, my friends, there is no easy solution, no magick that's going to bring your life to where you want it to be, without YOUR participation in it!
Too often, what a psychic SEES is what WILL be if nothing changes from the moment of the reading; but change is constant, and therefore the outcome CAN be different than predicted, depending on the clients reaction to what they have been told. For example, if you are looking for love... and the psychic SEES someone coming into your life within a certain time frame, but you then isolate yourself in your home and refuse to come out.... is the psychic WRONG because you didn't meet The One? (unless The One is a Fed Ex delivery person, and you just happen to open the door when they arrive.... The Universe works WITH us, my friends, but soulmate home delivery is not one of the things the Universe USUALLY provides for us).
I KNOW that when I'm reading for another person, there are alternatives to what I see, and I do my utmost to alert the client to these alternatives; There are situations in our lives that require no action, they are simply going to happen, even if we are asleep when they happen; and there are other times when we're going to have to DO something..... I remember a client who wanted a new job; I saw the work there, Knew she was going to be making a lot of money in the next few months, all she had to do was apply and the Universe would give her a chance to fulfill her career dreams. However, she really thought that this great new job would just like... show up on her doorstep, that employers would KNOW of her availability and take advantage of her skills..... Sigh, I'm good, folks, I'm VERY good at what I do, but I can't make someone love you who doesn't feel it in their hearts, and I can't call the employers and let them know that you are available in 2 weeks time.
Work With Me..... if you want to live your life fully.
Even using a more scientific method, such as astrology.... we undergo transits that open different energies into our lives. But if we sit there waiting for something to HAPPEN and it doesn't... was the astrology "wrong"? or did we simply miss out on an opportunity that only comes around ........ once in a blue moon?
From my perspective, as the Reader, I feel that I can assist a client to determine what it is they truly WANT in their lives. Sometimes, a person isn't really clear about that, they aren't sure what it is... they just want to be "HAPPY". And generally, they are SURE that what will make them happiest is something (or someone) outside themselves. This isn't how the Universe works, and I spend a good deal of my work time teaching others that that is a passive "letting life happen around me rather than living the life in the moment" means to an end.
And it's not leading anybody to "Happiness"
Happiness really IS the journey, not the destination... how you GET to the next point in your life is meant to be a celebration of Self and Spirit. A good psychic can show you that path, walk with you for awhile, and celebrate with you, that you are living your life fully and with INTENT.
When can hiring a psychic help you?
When you want a good view of the options being presented to you.
When you need affirmation of your choices.
When you need clarification so that your own vision is clearer.
When you would like to grow beyond this step, and need guidance to find the next step.
When you are ready for CHANGE and need guidance to get there.
When you are open to growth and willing to assume responsibility for your life.
When is hiring a psychic the "wrong" choice?
When you are miserable and want to return to a period in your past when you were "happy".
When you feel that only someone or something OUTSIDE yourself is the "cure" for what ails you.
 When you are desperate.
When you are financially unstable and hoping that the psychic is going to show you how to win the lottery before bankruptcy is inevitable.
Whenever you think that only the psychic can FIX what is broken in your life....
An honest psychic cannot fix what is broken, and an honest psychic would never suggest that you can retreat to your past with everything intact from "back then". An honest psychic works WITH you to create NEW energy in your now, and shows you options that your soul is open to receive, blessings that are yours for the asking, and solutions to problems by taking appropriate actions.
Something else to think about:
Real Psychics don't solicite your business.
They don't contact you "out of the blue" with "secret information" that they are just dying to reveal to you, all you have to do is contact them and pay for a reading....
They don't make promises that they can return a lost love, or give you THE lottery numbers that will assure you'll never have to work another day in your life.
They don't claim to be the only one who's GIFTS can help you.
The Real Thing, a true psychic, can be a friend, a counselor, a guide... for a period of time in your life; they respect your choices and are a true professional in every sense of the word..
No one "needs" a psychic. I consider it a privilege to be allowed to read for others, to share what I see, what I know, what I believe to be true. But I know my clients treat me like a luxury item, not a necessity, and that's as it should be. When it becomes "needy", I cannot serve the highest good of all, and that is the most vital part of life... what is in the interest of the highest good of all.
I'm here to help you on a temporary basis. I have the ability to do so, and am willing to be there for you during the rough times, the happy times, and all in-between. I want our relationship to be one that is truly beneficial LONG TERM, not just for the quick-fix. I believe that I am meant to be doing the work I am doing, for the highest good; And I am willing to share this part of the path with you, and will embrace you with love when it's time for us to part.
*About people who "join the industry" in hopes of being able to make a lot of money without leaving home.... No one can "learn to be a professional psychic" in 2 hours of reading a book.
The biggest part missing here is a sense of responsibility for reading for another person. The question of ETHICS is one that will require an entire essay of itself. If one spends enough time around "reading rooms" it doesn't take much to see that pretty much anybody THINKS they can read for another person; I've received IM's from CHILDREN as young as 13 years old who are calling themselves "Readers". To them, it's a joke. And readings, while hopefully enjoyable, are never a joke; a reading can change a person's LIFE. With the web, and TV advertising, "psychic" has become a multi-billion dollar BUSINESS for some. Watching other people read doesn't teach you how to read though
You can learn to fine tune your intuition, use astrological transits to open up to psychic avenues; You can develop your skills ... and while doing all this, also develop a sense of ethics and responsibility for taking on the charge of reading for others... to do anything less is decidedly something that can cause harm, not just to clients but to your own soul growth as well.
Blessings and Love,
Galen
